Greek-American Lieutenant General Andrew Poppas was confirmed by the U.S. Senate for appointment to the rank of General in late April.
He was assigned as Commanding General, United States Army Forces Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Andrew Poppas is currently serving as Director, Joint Staff, Washington, DC. In this role, he assists the Chairman in his role as advisor to the President and Secretary of Defense, coordinates and directs Joint Staff activities in support of the Chairman, and serves as the Staff Inspector General.
Lieutenant General Poppas is the senior Greek-American within the Department of Defense.
A native of Wisconsin, Poppas graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned in 1988.
In 2021, Poppas was among the presenters of awards at the Washington OXI Day Foundation. The Oxi Day Service Awards are awarded each year to a man and a woman who has taken courageous action that contributed to the promotion or preservation of freedom and democracy.
It is inspired by the David vs. Goliath story of Greece’s actions during World War II and the incredible courage displayed by the Greek people.
Greek-American Poppas to lead United States Army Forces Command
Headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) consists of more than 750,000 Active Army, U.S. Army Reserve, and Army National Guard soldiers.
